Mixed Metal Oxide Nanoparticle Formulations for the Treatment of Seroma

Seroma formation is a well-recognized postoperative complication for many plastic and general surgical procedures. Although various tissue adhesives substances have been used in an effort to treat seroma formation, no therapies established clinically. Recently, the nano-bridging phenomenon has introduced as promising approach achieve adhesion strong closure of deep skin wounds rats. The present study seeks assess potential beyond rat model seroma. Seromas were induced 20 Lewis rats through bilateral axillary lymphadenectomy, excision latissimus dorsi cutaneous maximus muscles, disruption dermal lymphatics. On day (POD) 7, was aspirated on both sides. A bioactive nanoparticle (NP) suspension based zinc-doped strontium-substituted bioglass/ceria nanoparticles (NP group) or fibrin glue (fibrin injected into right cavity, while left side untreated. POD 14, NP group showed complete remission (no seromas at all), recorded reduction only 63% fluid volume. NPs exerted local anti-inflammatory neo-angiogenic effects, without any detectable systemic changes. Moreover, ceria levels organs did not surpass background level, indicating that stayed site application. This first example demonstrating ability inorganic formulations reduce model, adverse effects. These results emphasize nanotechnological solutions therapeutic management clinical setting.
